The Brilliant Architect of Jaipur:
The city of Jaipur is well-off in its artistic and architectural charm, which can be traced in an assortment of chronological and artistic destinations that dwell in the city. The credit for designing the beautiful city of Jaipur goes to Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, a Brahmin scholar who belongs to Bengal. Vidyadhar Bhattacharya created wonderful plans in line with the prehistoric Hindu dissertation on architecture known as ‘Shilpa Shastra', the science of Indian structural design.
According to this, the city of Jaipur was constructed in 9 rectangular blocks. 7 of these blocks were created to serve for the civic and the remaining 2 comprised state buildings and palaces. The city of Jaipur was further surrounded by the city wall and entrance was through the 7 gates. With the intention to ensure the defense, gigantic fortification walls were created together with 7 burly gates.
History of Jaipur city:
The olden times of Jaipur takes the readers to more or less 300 years back in history, when the Mughal Kingdom in India was turned down. Jaipur, the pink city of Rajasthan was established in the year 1727 by the great Maharaja Jai Singh II who was a Kachhwaha Rajput. He ruled the region from the year 1699 to 1744. In the beginning, Maharaja’s capital city was Amber. Amber is placed at a distance of about 11kms from the city of Jaipur. However, Maharaja wanted to move his capital city to some other place owing to the raise in residents and mounting insufficiency of water. So, Maharaja Jai Singh decided to create Jaipur. As a matter of fact, Jaipur was the first designed city of India and the sovereign took so much effort while planning Jaipur. He referred quite a lot of architectural books and discussed with brilliant architects before creating the design of Jaipur city. After numerous combats with Maratha rulers, Jai Singh wanted to protect the people of Amber by avoiding disagreements with the Mughal Emperors. Owing to multiple reasons, Maharaja Jai Sing concentrated on the technical and artistic welfare to make Jaipur as a luminous city.
Wonderful planning of Vidyadhar Bhattacharya:
Since Maharaja Jai Singh was an aficionado of science & mathematics, he tried to seek suggestion from Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, a Brahmin researcher of Bengal to help him plan the structural design of Jaipur. By referring the prehistoric books of Ptolemy & Euclid and Indian literature on astronomy, Vidhyadhar explained the structural design to Maharaja. After that, Vidyadhar Bhattacharya, the brilliant architect created the plans in proportion to olden Hindu discourse on architecture known as ‘Shilpa Shastra', the art of Indian building. Based on the tactical plan, the edifice of the Jaipur started in the year 1727. On the whole, it took almost 4 years to finish the build the main palaces, squares and roads of the city. Jaipur was constructed based on the ideology of ‘Vastu Shastra’. The city of Jaipur was split into 9 blocks, of which 2 of them includes the state buildings & palaces. The remaining 7 blocks are allocated to the community. Gigantic fortification walls were created in conjunction with the 7 well-built gates.
During that period, the structural design of the Jaipur was highly sophisticated and undoubtedly the finest in India. When Prince of Wales visited Jaipur in the year 1853, the entire city was decorated in pink color to greet him. From then, Jaipur was known as ‘Pink City’ of Rajasthan. Even today, the broad avenues of Jaipur still remain to be painted in pink color which offers a unique exterior and allure to the city.
